Party 101

What makes a great party? That's easy - lots of people dancing and having fun makes a great party every time. It's that simple. But it's not always so simple to make that happen. A good DJ has great instincts and a vast bag of tricks. No matter what mood the crowd is in, the DJ should be able to motivate the people in the room to get up and participate ... join in and dance. Join in the funIt is all about the people in attendance and whether they are really involved in the party. If they are involved in the party ... it is a fun party. We can do this. We do this all the time.

Some of my friendly competitors ask me my secret. I say it's my personality. I can project my personality into the room and have people respond to me in a positive way. Some DJs are technical perfectionists who are too busy fussing with technical things to focus on the people in the room. They're actually too busy to focus on fun and games. But I know better. I have learned from long experience that those people are the party. Those people are there to have fun, and if you help them have it, they will reward you with smiles and laughs and singing and dancing.

What makes the perfect party is a delicate balance between young and old ... between fast and slow ... between technical details and human moments ... between sentimentality and sheer frivolity.
